1. Farmers were sensitized on identification of parthenium weed.

2.Created awareness on Preventive and management practices such as manual weeding, mechanical method, chemical methods.

3. Awareness was created on need of complete eradication of this poisonous weeds

4.Harmful effects of parthenium on human, animal and environment were explained

Event Details: 

1. CFLD field visit was made to Biofortified Maize hybrid (HQPM 5) crop at Boothipuram village of Bodi Block.

2. We have recorded vegetative growth parameters and performance of biofortified maize hybrid.

3. We have identified fall army worm incidence in maize. Recommended Emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 0.4 g/L of water (about 80 g/acre).

Event Details: 

1. Conducted on-campus training programme on formation and management of Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) for farmers and farm women at the KVK premises.
2. Created awareness among the participants on the importance, objectives and benefits of forming Farmers Interest Groups for collective action and strengthening farming activities.
3. Delivered a lecture on formation, registration, group structure, leadership and effective management of Farmers Interest Groups.
4. Discussed the importance of collective input procurement, adoption of improved technologies, knowledge sharing, value addition, collective marketing and better market linkages through FIGs.
5. The participants were sensitized on group dynamics, record maintenance, financial management, decision-making and sustainable functioning of Farmers Interest Groups.

* Explained about different types of mushroom and their production techniques and their uses.
* Explained about Value added products like viz., Mushroom Soup, Baji, Samosa, gravy, Biscuits, Pickles,Cutlets, Chips and Biriyani.
* Awareness talk on El-nino effect on Agriculture and drought resistant varieties.
* Awareness talk on harmful effects on Parthenium weeds and their management.
* Created an awareness on state and central governments schemes.
* Finally, Interactive session was conducted at the end of the programme students interact with storage, marketing and provide technical advisory was given to the students.

1.Conducted a CFLD Groundnut Seed Distribution Programme for farmers and farm women at the KVK premises.

2.Providing knowledge about improved groundnut cultivation practices, including quality seed selection, seed treatment, optimum spacing, nutrient management and efficient water management.

3.Delivered a lecture on Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPM & IDM) in Groundnut and emphasized the adoption of need-based plant protection measures.

4.Discussed the major problems faced by farmers in groundnut cultivation and provided suitable technical recommendations and remedial measures.

5.Finally, CFLD groundnut seeds were distributed to the selected farmers from Silamalai village to promote the adoption improved varieties and scientific cultivation practices for enhancing productivity and farm income.

Event Details: 

Mr. T. K. Raju, Farmer cum Beekeeper, Thoppippala Village, Idukki District, Kerala visited KVK Theni to utilize the Food Processing Incubation Centre for the dehydration of spices and oilseeds.
• Provided technical advisories on dehydration procedures, various methods of dehydration, spices covered under the purview of the Spices Board, GI-tagged spices and their unique and storage methods.

• Provided an overview of KVK mandated activities
• Handled a technical session on the utilization of grapes under the Zero Waste Concept, commercialization of dry grape production methods, health benefits, nutritive value, therapeutic uses of grapes and its by-products, machinery used for grape dehydration, importance of value addition and its scope, development of value added products from dry grapes.
• Explained certification, labelling, branding, marketing, government schemes and the procedure for obtaining GI Tag Authorized User.
• Shared impactful interventions and success stories on value chain management in grapes, motivating participants and promoting entrepreneurship opportunities in grape value addition.

• Explained various domains of the food industry, including marketing and branding, financial management, entrepreneurial risks, food safety and standards, business registration and other legal compliances.
