Extension Activity – Entrepreneurs Meet

Event Details: 

Conducted the Monthly Entrepreneurs Meet on AGMARK Certification and e-NAM at the KVK premises.
• The inaugural address was given by M. Arunraj, Programme Coordinator (i/c), KVK Theni, who highlighted the KVK mandated activities and emphasized the importance of conducting monthly entrepreneurs' meetings to promote entrepreneurship development, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities.
• The presidential address was delivered by Dr. P. Sivaram, Deputy Director, CENDECT, Theni, who encouraged entrepreneurs to adopt quality standards and strengthen market linkages for sustainable enterprise development.
• Dr. R. Suresh, Deputy Director (Agriculture–Agribusiness), Theni, given the special address and explained the significance of e-NAM for better marketing opportunities for farmers.
• Mr. M. Mahavishnu, Agriculture Officer, AGMARK Laboratory, Theni, delivered a technical session on AGMARK Certification, explaining the certification procedures, quality standards and its importance in enhancing consumer confidence and marketability of products produced by FPOs and rural entrepreneurs.
• Mr. R. Thirupathi, Loan Officer, Indian Bank, Chinnamanur Branch, given various agriculture and livestock financing schemes available for farmers and entrepreneurs, including credit facilities and financial assistance for enterprise development.
• M. Ramyasivaselvi, SMS (Home Science), KVK Theni, delivered a technical session on the importance of Trademark registration, explaining its benefits for branding and the various government schemes and support available for obtaining trademark registration.
• Value-added products developed by KVK-promoted entrepreneurs were exhibited, providing a platform for knowledge sharing, product promotion and exploring marketing opportunities among the participants.

Extension Activity – Dissemination of Technology (DoT) Meet

Event Details: 

Conducted the Dissemination of Technology (DoT) Meet – Week 3 (One Week One Tech) on IIHR Arka High Humidity Storage Box for Enhancing the Shelf Life of Green Leafy Vegetables.
• The presidential address was delivered by Dr. P. Sivaram, Deputy Director, CENDECT, Theni District.
• The special address was given by Dr. S. Bhuvaneswari, Principal Scientist, Division of Post Harvest Technology and Agricultural Engineering, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, who also handled a technical session on the IIHR Arka High Humidity Storage Box and explained its role in enhancing the shelf life of green leafy vegetables.
• M. Ramyasivaselvi, SMS (Home Science) delivered a lecture on the consumption pattern of fruits, vegetables and green leafy vegetables, highlighting their nutritional importance for nutrition security.
• R. Sugumar, Farmer cum Innovator, Bharath Techno, Cumbum, shared the success story of the IIHR Arka High Humidity Storage Box, emphasizing its practical utility and benefits for farmers, vendors and entrepreneurs.

Extension functionaries training

Event Details: 

1. A training programme was organised for extension functionaries including Agricultural Officers (AOs) and Assistant Agricultural Officers (AAOs) strengthen their technical knowledge and enhance their capacity to disseminate climate resilient agricultural technologies among farmers.

2. The training programme focused on the scientific use of crop boosters, recent agricultural technologies, drought management strategies and the impact of El Nino on crop production.

3. The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of field-level officials for effective dissemination of recommended technologies among farmers during the Kharif season.

4. We have explained about drought management covered moisture conservation techniques, mulching, rainwater harvesting, farm ponds, conservation furrows, use of drought tolerant crop varieties, contingency crop planning and efficient irrigation methods.

Farmers and Farm Women Training

Event Details: 

Conducted On-Campus Training Programme on Value Addition in Grapes (GI-Tag Cumbum Grapes)
• Provided an overview of the KVK mandated activities and the technical and handholding services offered to farmers, entrepreneurs and rural youth.
• Delivered a technical session on Value-Added Products from Grapes, nutritive value of grapes, nutrient and nutraceutical potentials of grapes and byproducts
• Conducted method demonstrations of dehydration techniques for Dry Grapes, Grape Jam, Grape Juice, Dry Grapes Halwa and Grape Pickle.
• Explained the procedures and importance of FSSAI licensing, MSME Udyam Registration, ZED Certification, product labelling, branding, packaging, marketing strategies, state and central schemes for establishing sustainable value-added enterprises
• Success story was shared, highlighting entrepreneurial opportunities and best practices in grape value addition.

Celebration of 98th ICAR foundation day 2026

Event Details: 

1. Organised live webcast of 98th ICAR foundation day celebration programme on 16.07.2026 at KVK Premises.

2. Following the live webcast an awareness session on the El Niño phenomenon and its possible impact on agriculture was conducted for the participants.

3. SMSs are explained about the causes of El Niño, its likely influence on rainfall distribution, temperature, water availability and crop productivity.

4. Farmers were advised to adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices such as timely sowing, selection of suitable crop varieties, efficient water management, soil moisture conservation, balanced nutrient management, integrated pest and disease management and regular monitoring of weather advisories.

5. The importance of contingency crop planning and adopting location-specific climate-smart technologies was also emphasized.

 

Scientist Visit

Event Details: 

Visited the KVK-promoted Theni SR Nutritious Products Unit at Dharmapuri Village, Theni Block, to provide need-based technical guidance and handholding support
• Provided technical guidance on AGMARK certification procedures and its importance, MSME ZED- Silver and Gold Certification, nutrient analysis, the importance of packaging, and the use of Copra Guard for quality enhancement and storage of copra.

 

Kisan kosthi

Event Details: 

1. Kisan kosthi programme was organised by ATMA at Errnampatti Village of Chinnamanur Block.

2. We have given lecture on ICM in Maize to the farmers. Also explained about Climate-Resilient Maize Production Technologies, Soil Health Management and Land Preparation for Maize, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in Maize, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Maize (including Fall Armyworm management).

3. We have explained about Pest and disease management practices in Coconut particularly rhinoceros beetle and button shedding problems.

4. We have created awareness among farmers about the possible impact of El Niño on agriculture and the adoption of suitable climate-resilient practices.

Conducted Dissemination of Technology (DoT) Meet – Week 2 (One Week One Tech) on High Value-Added Products from Miracle Tree (Moringa) to provide continuous technical guidance and handholding support.
• Explained the mandated activities of KVK.
• The presidential address was delivered by Dr. P. Sivaram, Deputy Director, CENDECT, Theni District.
• A technical session on Importance of Moringa Cultivation, High Value-Added Products from Moringa, Government Schemes Supporting Startups, Product Certification, Branding, and Market Promotion was handled by Mr. M. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Moringa Export Service Center, TNAPEx, Madurai.
• M.Ramyasivaselvi, SMS (Home Science) delivered a technical session on the formulation and standardization of novel value-added products from moringa, sensory evaluation procedures, consumption pattern of moringa for improving nutritional security and the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA).

CFLD Biofortified Maize field visit

Event Details: 

1. CFLD field visit was made to Biofortified Maize hybrid (HQPM 5) crop at Boothipuram village of Bodi Block.

2. We have recorded vegetative growth parameters and performance of biofortified maize hybrid.

3. We have identified fall army worm incidence in maize. Recommended Emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 0.4 g/L of water (about 80 g/acre).

A training programme was organised for extension functionaries including Assistant Director of Agriculture (ADA), Agricultural Officers (AOs) and Assistant Agricultural Officers (AAOs) to enhance their technical knowledge on recent agriculture technologies and improved Kharif paddy cultivation technologies.

2. The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of field-level officials for effective dissemination of recommended technologies among farmers during the Kharif season.

3. We have updated extension functionaries on recent agriculture technologies and provided technical knowledge on scientific Kharif paddy cultivation practices.

4. We have explained about the role and importance of various crop boosters in crop growth.
