Mr. M.G. Soundar and Mr. C. Raja from Kodangipatti Village, Bodinayakkanur Block, visited KVK Theni to seek guidance on establishing a food processing and banana-based handicrafts enterprise.
• They were provided technical guidance on suitable small-scale business opportunities, food processing technologies, banana-based handicraft products, machinery requirements, value-added product preparation, branding, packaging and marketing opportunities to support successful enterprise development.

Event Details: 

Visited ICAR – NRCB to learn the technology for preparing Ready-to-Serve (RTS) beverage from Banana Central Core Stem under the FLD programme.
• Visited the ICAR NRCB Common Incubation Centre to understand the latest food processing machinery and infrastructure and interacted with Incubatee to learn about entrepreneurship, product development and commercialization opportunities.
• Participated in a group meeting with Dr. P. Suresh Kumar, Principal Scientist, Department of Crop Production and Post-Harvest Technology, ICAR NRCB, Tiruchirappalli, to discuss banana value addition technologies, post-harvest management, and marketing scope.

Extension Activity – Dissemination of Technology (DoT) Meet

Event Details: 

Conducted the Dissemination of Technology (DoT) Meet – Week 4 (One Week One Tech) on Value Addition in Amla with the participation of farmers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
• The presidential address was given by Dr. P. Sivaram, Deputy Director, CENDECT, Theni District, who emphasized the importance of value addition in enhancing the income of farmers and promoting agri-based entrepreneurship.
• The special address was given by Dr. K. Thirumalaiselvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Sarah Tucker College, Tirunelveli, who handled a technical session on processing techniques and value-added products from amla, highlighting their nutritional and commercial significance.
• M. Ramyasivaselvi, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), handled a technical session on processing machinery for amla value addition, novel value-added amla products, food safety licensing, branding and packaging, Central and State Government schemes and marketing strategies for agri-entrepreneurs.
• Interactive session was conducted at the end of the programme, during which participants actively discussed their queries related to amla processing, entrepreneurship development, marketing and provided appropriate technical clarifications.

Diagnostic field visit

Event Details: 

1. Field visit was made to Bhendi and Banana crop in association with the Department of Agriculture at Perumalgoundampatti Village, Bodi Block.

2. We have identified the whitefly incidence in Bhendi and micronutrient deficiency problems in Banana.

3. Recommended installation of 4 - 6 yellow sticky traps per acre and spraying of Imidacloprid 2 ml/10 L for Bhendi. Foliar application of 0.5 to 1.0 % MN mixture for Banana.

Kisan kosthi

1. Kisan kosthi programme was organised by ATMA at Jangalpatti Village of Theni Block.

2. We have created awareness among farmers on maintaining soil fertility and promoting sustainable agricultural production.

3. The programme emphasized the importance of conserving soil as a living resource and adopting integrated nutrient management practices for long term productivity.

4. We have created awareness among farmers about the impact of El Nino on agriculture and the adoption of suitable climate resilient practices.

Field Visit to Backyard Poultry Farm

Event Details: 

1. Conducted a field visit to a backyard poultry farm to assess the overall health and management practices of the flock.
2. Examined the birds for clinical signs of common poultry diseases and observed their general health status.
3. Evaluated housing conditions, ventilation, litter management, stocking density, and sanitation practices.
4. Assessed feeding and watering management and advised the farmer on providing a balanced diet, clean drinking water, and vitamin-mineral supplementation.
5. Verified the vaccination and deworming schedule and emphasized timely vaccination against major poultry diseases such as Newcastle Disease (Ranikhet) and Fowl Pox.
6. Recommended regular cleaning and disinfection of the poultry shed, proper disposal of litter, and strict biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks.
7. Addressed the farmer’s queries regarding disease prevention, mortality reduction, and improved productivity

Field Visit to Goat Farm

Event Details: 

1. Conducted a field visit to a goat farm to assess the health status and overall management practices of the flock.
2. Evaluated feeding practices, availability of green fodder, concentrate feeding, clean drinking water, and mineral supplementation.
3. Examined the goats for common health problems, body condition, external parasites, and signs of infectious diseases.
4. Verified the deworming and vaccination schedule and advised the farmer on timely vaccination against major diseases such as PPR, Enterotoxaemia (ET), and Goat Pox.
5. Recommended proper sanitation, biosecurity measures, regular health monitoring, and prompt isolation of sick animals to reduce disease incidence.
6. Interacted with the farmer, clarified queries on breeding, kid management, nutrition, and disease prevention, and provided technical guidance for improving productivity.

Event Details: 

1. Field visit was made to Coconut crop at Dharmapuri village of Chinnamanur block.

2. We have identified Rhinoceros beetle, Redpalm weevil and micro nutrient deficiency problem in Coconut and suitable recommendations were given to the farmers.

3. Also, we have explained about bio control application methods and usage in Coconut crop.

Event Details: 

Mrs. S. Murugeswari, KVK promoted woman entrepreneur from Kailasapatti Village, Periyakulam Block, Theni District, participated as a resource person in a live radio talk with listeners programme during National Mango Day celebration 2026.
• During the programme, she shared her entrepreneurial journey and success story in the preparation and marketing of value-added mango products, highlighting the opportunities for income generation through mango processing and the technical support provided by ICAR-KVK, Theni District.

Farmers – Scientist interaction programme

Event Details: 

1. KVK Theni organized a Farmer–Scientist Interaction Programme collaboration with the Department of Agriculture to strengthen the link between agricultural research and field-level farming.

2. The programme provided a platform for farmers to directly interact with scientists, discuss production constraints and obtain practical, science-based solutions for improving productivity and farm income.

3. We have explained about climate resilient agriculture and drought management, soil health management and balanced nutrient application, Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPM), Improved crop varieties and scientific cultivation practices, Water-use efficiency and integrated farming systems.
